PM Al-Maliki: Iraq will be model country for region |

Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki has said that Iraq will become a model for countries in the region to aspire to in freedoms, democracy and peaceful coexistence. Speaking at a meeting with residents from Al-Shaab district of Baghdad, the PM reiterated that Iraq seeks healthy relations with its neighbours and the international community based on mutual respect, common interests and non-interference in internal affairs.

and foreign investment returning to the country. PM Al-Maliki also noted that the transparent nature of the recent oil bidding rounds was unprecedented and a testament to Iraq’s progress. He said that the signing of the oil contracts was a significant step towards economic stability and self-reliance.
The Prime Minister also urged Iraq’s citizens to support the state and its government by exercising their right to vote, noting the significance of the upcoming parliamentary elections in consolidating the security, political and economic gains. He added that a high turnout would help strengthen Iraq’s democratic system and prevent fraud.
PM Al-Maliki reflected on the fact that today’s Iraq is a state where citizens have the right to choose and empower the government, and hold it to account. He highlighted the importance of preserving the democratic experience and reassured Iraqis that there would be no return to dictatorship and the tyrannical rule of the Baath Party.
